Now, this is a book one will either love or hate. There's literally no in between, and I am definitely on the LOVE side, and it might even be my favorite Rooney's book so far. Once again, I fell in love with these flawed characters, the writing, the scenery, everything. I didn't even mind the excessive amount of the word "plastic", nor the lack of a compelling plot but let's be for real, no one is reading a Sally Rooney book for the freaking plot.
This pair of straights and pair of bisexuals made my day every time I opened the book to read, and even though I mostly read it in public transport, my short reading spans didn't shorten my love for the book. I found it so easy to relate to a lot of things they were talking about, the struggles, the lack of communication, even when I would get annoyed at a character, I would still eat it up. They are just so REAL, which is my favorite thing about SR books, since I just get so tired of perfect protagonists so easily. Both of their relationships were really different, yet I found them equally as amusing, not to mention the friendships.
Also I absolutely loved the Italy trip of course, as a CMBYN enjoyer. I adored too is the amount of references I understood for a change, and even mentions of my fav Russian classic characters (Prince Myshkin, Levin).
Anyways, yet another banger that SR lowkey wrote for me personally, I loved this book so much.
P.S. If anyone saw me fawning over Simon, no you didn't, I would never fall for a contemporary book character I swear...especially not after seeing him wanting to cut grass just like Levin haha...
