A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult

4.0

Jodi Picoult isn't afraid to take on controversial subjects, and this time she's taken on the biggest one of all: abortion. A good author makes you see multiple viewpoints, even ones that aren't your own, and makes them relatable. The author does a really remarkable job of that here. She hits all the key players: a young woman getting birth control for the first time, a person who just had an abortion, one who was trying to decide if she SHOULD have one, a minor charged with manslaughter for having one, an abortion doctor, and two pro-life people. She tells the story from all of their viewpoints (and more) and I found myself understanding every single one of them, even if I didn't agree with everyone's actions. So I'll say this: no matter your stance on abortion, I highly recommend this book. We might not all ever agree on the subject, but at least we can listen to each other.
