Shadows in Death by J.D. Robb

Sigh ... I love when Roarke's past is involved. Their relationship just gets stronger with each book.

Eve's current case brings an unwelcome blast from Roarke's past into their world. While the super real, and dangerous threat hangs over Roarke and those he loves ... the lack of "punch" of the threat sort of rang hollow for me. What I loved about earlier books is the life threatening, beat the hell up scenes that have been missing in later books.

Sure, there are situations that are tense. It just seems like Eve has reached Wonder Woman status, and Roarke has constructed a super secure bubble around her. I just had trouble feeling the "threat" to her throughout the book.

I LOVE how her entire squad came together to bring the perp down. There are some pretty amazing scenes with that. Feeney and Whitney's involvement in the case was interesting.

The interspersed School opening scenes were sweet, and was a nice break from the action.
