Don’t let the cartoony cover fool you. This book is NOT appropriate to be read by kids. That being said, this book is sex scenes galore. I’m not crazy about the writing style of this book either. For a book aimed for adults, the writing seems juvenile. Some chapters and scenes I enjoyed but a lot of other parts I either felt it was too cheesy or didn't really make sense to the the plot. If I was reading this book as a 13 year old, I definitely would’ve eaten this story up. But as a fellow college student AND figure skater reading this book, the lack of research clearly shows as the experiences the characters go through aren’t accurate to reality. I can’t really relate to the characters at all, despite being in almost the exact same shoes as Stas.
The amount of characters in this story are a lot too. I can barely keep track of who’s who. There’s a guy named Ryan who was a big part of the first half of the book but then the second half of the book, he’s written off with no reason.
Sometimes, I felt like the story seemed to revolve around sex. I’m not against smut, but especially in the second half of the book, I felt that a lot of sex scenes were unnecessary for the plot.
I also felt like the pacing of the romance between Nate and Stas was fast. However, I’m also personally a slow burn type of gal and grey aroace, so maybe I’m just an outlier.
