Windwitch by Susan Dennard

5.0

6/30/21 Re-read: All of my opinions are the same except my love for side characters (particularly the Hell-Bards, Vaness, Cam, and Stix) have increased by 10000000%. It's also so much fun picking up on things in this book that I know get expanded on in Sightwitch/Bloodwitch. UGH THIS SERIES IS SO GOOD

Much like Truthwitch, I loved this even more the second time through. While the story of Windwitch can be a bit slow in the beginning (mainly due to the main cast of characters being in completely different places surrounded by new characters), it quickly picks up and the new characters are just as wonderful as the familiar ones from Truthwitch. This book has a lot packed into it – more worldbuilding, important character growth, new character dynamics (and the development of old ones), plot twists that had me still surprised despite the fact this is my second time reading, and lots of important new info that sets up what's to come in the rest of the series. The story is epic, the characters are amazing – both Truthwitch and Windwitch are worth a read (and a reread before Bloodwitch).
