This book leans heavy into the miscommunication/secrets trope. The couple isn't really a couple for the majority of the book, there is a lot of animosity towards each other, though I'm pretty sure Alistar is all in on Cora pretty early on despite not wanting to admit it
I get why Cora keeps her secrets. Trust no one, but I did get frustrated with her at times for not trusting Alistar. To be honest, I saw the twist coming, but the author did a good job of planting clues to lead me to that conclusion, and even then I was questioning myself until it was confirmed by the characters.
Lucian's suicide was heartbreaking, and I was so hoping he would get his happy ending. The ending seemed a bit abrupt, the spice in the epilogue was a bit off putting as being the first scene after the final scene in the main part of the book. I had mixed feels.
All in all, this was a good read, but probably not one of my favorites from the series.

Graphic: Gun violence, Sexual content, Suicide, Murder
Moderate: Sexual assault, Abandonment
Minor: Animal cruelty
Explanation of animal cruelty tw: there is a brief time in the book where a character's dog goes missing and is later found with a cut on his abdomen There is a brief description of the injury. Later in the book, there is a very brief (one sentence) comment from the offending character stating what he did to the dog. The dog lives happily ever after with the couple in the book.
