I loved this book from it's very first chapter. It is has a few of my favourite ingredients for a book including a heartfelt story, irreverent strangeness and a side of philosophical pondering mixed in. It deals with meaning and martydom amongst the backdrop of an Iranian/American family history, which feels both vivid and eye opening at times.
Every character felt honest and had their own voice, which was helped by having their own individual chapters to expand on their experiences and how we might not fully understand someone else's perspective (sonder is a theme brought up in the book). The main focus of Cyrus tackling his own place in history, really tied all of the books themes together, and he felt so real as a person. I think what spoke to me is how he embodies so many people today, who find themselves lost at times in life and looking for purpose.
For those looking to get back into reading, or who need something to really treasure and savour, look no further than this book. They don't come around as often as you'd hope.
