The Scorch Trials by James Dashner
2.0

Surprisingly, this was worse than the first one. Thomas is the most infuriating protagonist I've read recently. He shows no growth and, despite the fact that he is supposed to be a genius, is never able to connect even the most obvious dots until someone else does it for him. Dashner continues to tell us that relationships exist and expect us to believe the emotional attachment without showing us any development of that relationship or reason for the attachment. More than that, he insists on treating the reader like Charlie Brown while he plays Lucy pulling the football away at the last moment. It might make for a fun comic strip, but it makes an infuriating YA novel.
