Hazards of Time Travel by Joyce Carol Oates

4.0

Really enjoyed this book and found myself hooked quite quickly. The writing style was very captivating and readable - it isn't something I thought I'd like and I think it's probably difficult to write well.

Generally I enjoy sci-fi and dystopias, and while this story definitely has elements of this, in reality the story is much less about the world around the main character, and more about her just, going through it. I'm not sure how it didn't bore me to tears when I say it like that - but really I did find it fascinating.

I wouldn't say that any of the characters are particularly likeable - sometimes the main character can be quite infuriating really - but that isn't necessarily an issue for me, though I can see why it is for some of the others leaving negative reviews for this.

I really loved the ending, though again I can see not everyone feels that way. I like to think it left me with questions but I think I know (and don't like) the answer. Either way I loved the mystery of it.
