Girl Town by Carolyn Nowak, Casey Nowak

Girl Town is a gem of a collection. I enjoyed every story. It was perfectly self contained, surreal, witty and often had me going back over pages and re-reading just for the pleasure of being in the story. What I especially liked was that the stories hinted at a greater world, larger horizons than what was in the story itself without ever making a point of explaining anything too explicitly-- it's a great trick when a writer can pull that off, that sense of mystery and curiosity for something you'll never see, but are satisfied by regardless. I find it very inspiring and it makes me want to write, which is a top compliment that I can give any work. Also the art in this graphic novel was *chefs kiss*. I think it's really crazy how this book got a publicity boost thanks to someone's weird review calling it 'gynocentric', which is hilarious. Yes, almost all the characters are women but there's nothing inaccessible about that? These are stories (like most stories about women!) that any human person could read and enjoy. The only caveat I would give is that this collection may not appeal to people who don't like magical realism or surreal elements in the things they read.
