The Pretty One: On Life, Pop Culture, Disability, and Other Reasons to Fall in Love with Me by Keah Brown
3.0
If I had to sum it up in two sentences: this book may have been written too soon. It was written in the middle of her journey and I would have loved to see this in a year or two.
The topic is needed. We need more books like this. She’s right we do need more representation of Black disabled feminist bisexual women. I added the bisexual because she came out after this book.
However, I wanted more here. It felt repetitive at times, and I agree with some other reviewers, it kind of felt lit needed more edits and cuts. I would have loved more but shorter essays.
I love Keah. I follow her on Twitter and she’s great. I am passionately following and waiting to see what this next chapter of her life brings.
This had moments of brilliance. And I can’t wait to see what’s next. But this was an okay but needed read.
Warning: suicidal ideation, depression
