The Last Nanny In Manhattan by K. Sterling

Did not finish book. Stopped at 55%.
There were lots of things that bothered me here, ranging from writing to story.
  • The writing isn’t great. The characters frequently talk to themselves, which feels like a very lazy way to communicate information to readers. I also was never really sure what the POV is?? Is it dual and messy in flipping back and forth? Is it omniscient? Unsure. Don’t care anymore.
  • I think I’m too anti-capitalist for billionaire romances. The staff basically have no lives outside of working for this billionaire. Fin works 12 hour days, every day, and gets every other weekend off — which I think he’s supposed to be grateful for?? This poor man basically has like 10 hours at home to have a life, sleep, and relax. The butler lives in the house, and when we see his room, he has like one half empty bookshelf of belongings which is just… so depressing.
  • In the beginning of the book, we see Fin with his roommate and learn a lot of about his brother and his brother’s roommate, so I assumed they’d be prominent characters in the book. But once Fin was settled into the job, they basically disappeared. (I’m dnf’ing at 54%, so they might come back, idk).
  • I felt zero connection between the mcs at 54%. There was some good teasing and praising and stuff before the 30% mark, but then it completely dried up. At 54% I just couldn’t bring myself to care enough to finish
  • There’s so much going on in this book. It tries to tackle grief (sloppily, from what I’ve seen). There’s lots of child raising tips. There’s the kids. There’s Fin’s brother starting his own agency (which that plot line seems to have dropped off entirely). The MCs having any kind of intimacy gets shoved to the background.  I can’t even remember what else there was, but there was more
  • Honestly I just got so damn bored.

If you want a good rich single dad x his kid’s “caregiver-esque” person, read Teacher of the Year by MA Wardell.
