The Yakuza's Bias 1 by Teki Yatsuda

5.0

This has breathed new life into my wilted soul.

You'll see comparisons to [b:The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 1|44018869|The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 1|Kousuke Oono|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1559525094l/44018869._SX50_.jpg|62975358] but that's misleading. The only similarity between the two is the portrayal of a soft side of a high-ranking Yakuza.

This one is not a collection of daily moments, it's a whole story. The illustrations are old-school serious, not cute. Here, Ken is the second-in-command for the Washio clan, not a retired Yakuza who takes care of hearth and home while his wife works.

I wouldn’t even say the charm is the same brand. While this one is charming, it’s not as light and fluffy as the other. It’s a bit darker, grittier, which is probably why the antithesis of the Yakuza - a K-Pop Idol boy band - shines so brightly. Although, as this story points out, there are some similarities between organized crime and manufactured idol groups.

The entire volume made me happy and I giggled often while reading it off and on over Memorial Day weekend.
