The Honeymoon Trap by Christina Hovland

2.0

I liked Lucy in this book, but I did not like Will at all. I thought Lucy deserved better. I mean, there were some situations that I thought neither of them handled well, but Will just felt too pushy and kind of whiny. He clearly didn’t understand the power imbalance between them that would be putting Lucy at risk - he just made no moves to understand her point of view. I also could not get over the “caterpillar” comment. I didn’t feel like he apologized enough for it, and I didn’t understand why he said it in the first place. I get that he was caught super off guard but it just felt really cruel. I’m someone who is also super insecure about her thick eyebrows and have been told that I have caterpillar eyebrows, so I just don’t understand how Lucy could have forgiven Will without any real remorse on his end. I don’t think he even addressed what he said directly like he just said he was sorry for what happened with “the photo” (an old photograph is what led to Will realizing he knew Lucy when she was younger and had thick eyebrows which led to the caterpillar comment, which is what bullies called her in school and beyond). I felt such a kinship to Lucy, and she deserved so much better than this:/ Will was just too shallow and selfish.
