Insatiable by Daisy Buchanan
1.75
In a numbered list format, why this book is 1.75 stars. There's definitely more, but here's the overall gist.
1. Every time an author writes a book about a 20something threw my hair in a messy bun my blue big orbs and awkward body protagonist an angel loses their wings. Don't get me wrong, it's fine for your protagonist to be 25ish and insecure it's FINE. But give her one redeeming trait make her interesting. Give her emotions nuance make make multifaceted. One Last Stop did it well. It established the protagonist's initial social insecurity and then worked FROM there. Someone tells Violet to "be her own woman" 300 pages in and it blows her mind. What are you TALKING ABOUT.
2. If you're gonna write about sex then write about sex! The sex in this book was so rushed it felt like the porn where the woman is screaming n cumming 4 seconds in. Like babe you're nowhere near that yet.
3. Also the sex was so cishet it made my eyes hurt. If any character in this went to an actual queer sex party they'd shit themselves.
4. The self hating descriptions of everything got so old so fast. I dont CARE what she is wearing ans that she's insecure about it bro move on
5. The ending sucked. A lot of reviews are pointing this out and I'm glad I'm not alone in this.
6. Everyone had 1 personality trait, if that. Violet - clumsy and insecure, Mark - wheey rugby lad (somehow more irredeemable than being posh? In what world lmao) - Lottie/Simon - mysterious and toxic, etc
7. The author really struggled when she wrote about the sex w more than 1 person involved. During the orgies there were always only 1 or at MOST 2 people involved and it was always them doing the same things and Violet nutting immediately. Where's the passion? Where's the erotic writing? No nothing, at all? Embarrassing.
8. The job shit and especially how it ended made me so mad. She was so horny for them before they paid her a PENNY. Before any money enters your bank account they're just above average hot middle aged people. Where is the DYNAMIIICCC BRO
