Ways of Going Home by Alejandro Zambra

4.0

This is officially a Zambra stan account. I loved this little book so much because it was really emotionally impactful but also I learnt so much about Chilean history and politics. It is about a young boy who is growing up whist his family come to grips with the authoritarian regime descending over Chile. Amongst the violence and devastation he learns to find friendship and love.

I adored the second part where we followed him to university and learnt more about his relationships. Zambra seems to write about literature and love so well and the way he intertwines the two just really gets me. His writing as always in absolutely unparalleled. I don't know how he packs so much into these tiny books but I have fallen in love with every single thing he has written so far.
