This is my first book by Ms. Michaels. I didn’t realize it was a spin-off of another series and other than meeting characters from that series, you don’t need to have read it to read this book (although I’m wondering how reading one particular book would affect my perspective going into this one). This is a decent start to a series with likeable characters that I’m guessing will all get their own books. There is really nothing new here…the story is very predictable. There were a couple of times I felt like I read the same passage more than once as the inner dialog of both characters was repetitive. There are times the story felt too perfect (like how Jeremy just happened upon Zane). Despite all that, it is a quick, enjoyable read.

Zane’s story is heartbreaking…the prologue is hard to read. He’s strong…he’s a survivor. He opens up to Jeremy…as a friend…pretty quickly, trusting his instincts to determine he’s not a threat. I didn’t blame him for his anger toward Jeremy when he discovers the truth…it’s exactly how I would have felt. He’s shy and sweet, but has moments of boldness.

Jeremy is a bada$$ in his own right and a typical alpha male. He has a strong loyal streak as well as a possessive streak when he deems something his. He’s just as lonely as Zane and is a good match for him. They have off the charts sexual chemistry and I like the friends-to-lovers angle they started with.

I may go back and check out the previous series…the characters are intriguing that we’ve met; I will probably stick with this series as well.
