The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
5.0
What a cosy and unbelievably wholesome story. I could NOT stop reading once I started this, and it was only meant to be something to read on work breaks! Ha!
—————————
“All of her clothes had pockets, even if she’d had to sew them in herself.”
If I hadn’t liked Mika already, then this was the sentence that would have solidified it for me.
“Oh. Oh, no. He’d pushed the sleeves of his white button-down shirt up past his elbows. She could see his forearms. Forearms were invariably her ruin.”
Also this. Girl. Same.
—————————
“I don’t think there’s been a single moment since the day you told me we’re all made up of stardust that I haven’t wanted you.”
I love the grumpy/sunshine tropes and boy did this one hit that mark. Jamie warms my lil heart.
“If I loved you less,” he said quietly, the words no less true for the laugh that threaded through his voice, “I might be able to talk about it more.”
I mean… do I need to say more?
—————————
Just overall a lovely read. I love the adults in the house, I love the children. My heart is full for all of them.
I’m almost sad I got to know these characters and won’t see them in a sequel but I think that makes this book even more special. Ugh. I will re-read this again and again.
