I don’t understand how this could have been a NYT bestseller. I struggled from the very beginning. The format of telling a story through letters is challenging as it got confusing to know who was who, and the letters just weren’t that compelling. The only way I was able to finish this book was by watching the movie, then going back to the book. The movie — which takes a lot of liberties with the book — was much easier to follow and more endearing.
