This is a loose (very loose) Beauty and the Beast retell. Beauty lives with several of her sisters and her widower father. When they lose their fortune and are forced to move to a hunting lodge, Beauty begins to reject society and wish for a life as a hunter. Soon she is given an opportunity to achieve this, when her father disappears and she must go look for him. While searching, she is kidnapped by a beast, who believes that she is the only one able to get rid of his curse.
I didn't think the characters were developed. Each retelling offers something new to the fairy tale narrative, but I don't think this novel was developed enough to offer anything I could hang on to. My favorite character was the dog.
