Magic Lessons: The Prequel to Practical Magic
by Alice Hoffman
This was an entertaining book. I enjoyed following the story (via audiobook) of three generations of women that spans 3 countries and takes place during a very oppressive time (especially for women-and even more so for women living in integrity). I appreciated the spectrum of humanity and character development, the variety of characters, and the strength of women taking center stage. I’ve always been interested in the Salem witch trials and the women who faced them and I was glad that this book encompassed this time period and events. Even so, this book isn’t a dark story and a lot of that has to do with the characters. It isn’t a book that makes me think too deeply or feel too intensely, but a perfect book to listen to while driving or making dinner! I likely won’t continue the series but I’m glad I finally read an Alice Hoffman novel!
