Shameless: A Case for Not Feeling Bad about Feeling Good (About Sex) by Nadia Bolz-Weber

5.0

There was a time in my life in which I would have read this book, looking for a theologically grounded escape route from the twisted purity culture view of sex that I was raised with. Thankfully, I am not at that time in my life anymore. I am so comfortable with my own sexuality and so happy, and yet, this book reminded me of all that is spiritual about sex. There were bits, here and there, where Bolz-Weber gives a bit of apologetics, which is often just tearing down false Evangelical notions of Christian theology grounded in centuries of practice, unimpacted by the changing tides of impermanence. But the more impactful parts, to me, was when she spoke about the beauty of sex, spiritually, in a liberated Christian's life. That, to me, is something that meant a lot to hear. I don't need someone (anymore) to tell me the Bible doesn't want me to be gay. At this point, I am happy, I don't care, and I am happy that I don't care. But it is nice, now and then, to hear new perspectives on this religion that forms my roots, and hear positive things. Overall, five stars, great stories, great thoughts, definitely need to read more of this author.
