Near the Bone
by Christina Henry
dark
tense
slow-paced
I’m genuinely wondering why I stuck it out to the end. The book had some good moments that had me at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next, but then around the 65% mark I just wanted the book to be over and wrap it up already. All that stress just to get no answers at the end.
What is the beast? We don’t know.
Where is Heather? No idea.
What is this connection Mattie has to the beast because she seems to always know what it’s thinking? Who cares.
I’m genuinely so upset about Griffin and Jen. Obviously I understand that crappy things happen to good people, but the fact that we don’t even get answers in the end as to what the monster is makes their deaths seem even more dispiriting.
I’m just disappointed and feel like this went nowhere😩 maybe after I sit with it for a while I’ll change my mind idk.
