The Men with the Golden Cuffs by Lexi Blake
5.0
It's been a long time coming and I don't know why it took me so long to finally review this book. Yes, I can honestly say it took me well over 11 years to finally sit down and type up a review, but here we are!
This book has always gone down as one of my favorite books of all time. From the way it was written to the way the characters were developed and fleshed out, everything about this book was amazing. Over the years, I've gone back and reread this book multiple times because it's just that good. It may appear as if I'm exaggerating, but trust me, I'm not. I'm a harsh critic when it comes to the books I read, so believe me when I say this is one of the ones that I find to be the crème of the crop. This series began my love affair with the reverse harem trope. Well, this book in particular began my love affair with that trope actually. Reverse harem being one woman and multiple male love interests, of course.
Serena was a submissive and slightly docile female main character, but the author managed to make her likable despite that. There are certain authors who write characters like Serena but those characters aren't endearing to the audience. The audience doesn't bond with those characters in a way that allows us to love them. The author didn't have an issue with that, fortunately. There were times where Serena stood up for herself and had a voice when it was necessary, and that's truly all you can ask for as a reader in these situations. She felt like a fully actualized, realized, and fleshed out character. Adam and Jacob were perfect love interests; they were the exact opposite of each other but they balanced each other out so well. Jacob was slightly domineering but it worked! He was still likable enough to the point where him being so heavy-handed didn't take away from who he was as a character. Adam was an absolute sweetheart, who had his own insecurities and mental hang-ups that were realistic and didn't appear to be outlandish or unrealistic. For that, I thank the author because she could have thrown an asinine flaw at us in regards to Adam but she didn't.
All in all, I would highly recommend this book to reverse harem virgins because it's hot but it's still tame enough where it won't be too much for you if this is your first time reading something like this. I can't sign the praises of this book and its author enough! I highly encourage people to read this.
