Loathing You
by Amina Khan
1.5/5 or 3/10
Warnings: Homophobia, Bullying, Abuse
...I'm not even sure I can say anything redeeming about this book in any way. Like, all I can say is that if you adore Wattpad books in which everything happens extremely quickly but it's hid behind an immense word count. This is the book for you!
Both the protagonists (since we have a switching POV, who would've thought?) are extremely annoying, boring and it all feels extremely forced between them. It's like your classic book of "Hey, I bully you! Because I have internalized homophobia and you'll have to tutor me now even though the author mentions I'm capable of doing it on my own but I'm lazy!"
Even the entire reason behind her homophobia was absurd, like I can't even consider this a spoiler because it's mentioned in like the first ten chapters- Her and mother and her hate queer people because their father abandoned them to be with his boss in the past and beat up his wife for it since he didn't want the secret to be out? I know this sounds extremely insensitive, but out of *all* the reasons! Out of everything! That's the backstory they went along with? I know it's supposed to be like all dark and fucked up with trauma, but that's the most half-assed backstory I've heard to excuse homophobia for someone to have it internalized against their crush for 4-5 years
I'd also like to say that I'm aware this is supposed to be some sort of like 'Dark Romance', but I just found the dark aspect of it extremely forced since it's just there since it's an Obsessive Bully x Their Victim
