There was something missing this whole book, and it wasn't Tristain. Severin was annoyingly whiny and in his own world for basically the whole book. The resolution was to clear from early on. The puzzles the team had to solve seemed quite obvious to me, the reader, and for a group of really smart puzzle-solvers, they took their time with them... I liked this slightly better than the last, but I think that's only because I came into this with at least some sense of who the characters were. There was a lot of recapping, which felt forced.
