“Patience. I coloured patience grey, hung over with black clouds. I coloured hope yellow, just like that sun we could see for a few short morning hours. Too soon the sun rose high in the sky and disappeared from view, leaving us bereft, and staring at blue.”

I have never felt such pain before. I have never hated, yet loved a book so dearly.

Cathy is the main protagonist of this novel and she has a strong and mature voice from the beginning.
You watch her grow and learn through the years of living within the confines of that attic. Her pain and her loneliness.

You watch as she struggles with going against everything she thought was right or wrong.

This book has some seriously dark themes. It is not for the faint hearted, but it’s definitely a book that will make you think.
