An easy and captivating read. However I also felt slightly underwhelmed by the conclusion of the book - to me, the beginning and the end of the book felt like two different stories. It made me think I was going to get a book about some great mystery or scheme, but the ‘reveal’ was pretty tame & predictable. Perhaps the signposting was a little too overt - but it’s a difficult thing to get right; to make a ‘reveal’ make sense and not appear out-of-nowhere, without making it too apparent what would happen.
Feel like we definitely should’ve gotten a more emotional and less abrupt parting for the characters too.
Saying all of that, I enjoyed Ruby as a character very much & I thought the writing style was the perfect level of descriptive and detailed without getting tedious.
