Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson
4.0

I love books on the origins of the English Language, and Bryson is obviously as fascinated by the topic as me. He always writes with a light touch, but expresses a deceptive amount of information. This is a really interesting book, exploring the not-so-logical way that our language has evolved, full of interesting tidbits - not the least because it shows why the concept that you can't split an infinitive is redundant!
