Beautiful prose - descriptive without excessive flourish (something I struggle with in modern literary fiction), excellent building of tension, compassionate and well rounded characters. Really enjoyed the way in which Charlie slowly began to learn about prejudice and racism, and the way this was portrayed through the actions of others, Jasper Jones and self reflection. I did think the banter between Jeffrey and Charlie was a bit much at times, so I have detracted half a star, also feel like it probably could've done without the final chapter - the second last chapter seemed like a nice ending point. Overall, really enjoying digging into modern Australian fiction and finding some gems!
