Annie Hall by Woody Allen

5.0

I feel like I can pretty sensibly make the claim that Annie Hall is the greatest screenplay written in English, in the 20th century, that didn't involve Preston Sturges or Billy Wilder. In other words, I really love this screenplay. That the movie's even better is kind of astonishing. Almost nothing makes me laugh as much as this does, and few pieces of writing are more perfectly and simply poignant. I guess this is just a lot of seemingly hyperbolic praise, but I struggle to write well about my favourites.
