Lodestar
by Shannon Messenger
Lodestar took me a bit to get into, but this installment truly surprised me in the end! The story brewed over time instead of being super action-packed throughout.
It’s a long one, so there were a few moments where I wasn’t sure how much I’d truly enjoy it! But once I hit the 70% mark all bets were off. The gang spends most of this book trying to piece together a puzzle, and once the clues start to fall into place, the stakes are raised and it became intense. I even teared up a bit toward the end. Shannon Messenger didn’t pull her punches!
I will say that the explanation for the Lodestar felt a bit over complicated (a bit dragged out), but at the same time, I’m happy that it wasn’t resolved in a single chapter. Maybe I was just too eager to finally understand what was REALLY going on after being in the dark for over 500 pages lol.
Overall, this one was unexpected and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I still loved the way that the lines between good and evil were blurred and discussed, and I loved the themes of family and even politics.
If you haven’t read Keeper yet, you’re definitely missing out on an amazing middle grade fantasy series!
