I love a cozy mystery, but tend to prefer the classics over current titles. That said I also love a bookstore mystery and Scotland, this was getting good reviews, so I thought “why not?”.
It was a bummer that it was in first person, never great for a mystery. It was also a bummer we spent almost no time in the bookstore, and other than providing a reason for the characters to gather, it didn’t really figure in to the mystery. Maybe this is why you shouldn’t jump in to a series at #8.
The actual mystery was ok, but nothing I was dying to solve.
I did like the characters, there was some good interplay between them, and some more of their personalities rubbing each other the wrong way or joining in the fun would have been great. I thought I wouldn’t enjoy all of the group tour portions of the story, and I did end up enjoying them.
A mixed bag for me. I do think I’ll go back to the beginning of the series and see if I enjoy the early books a bit more.
