The Accomplice by Lisa Lutz
4.0

I was surprised to get this so quickly from the library! I have The Swallows on my TBR but it still waits lol so this was my first Lisa Lutz.

And I really enjoyed it. First off, I don't think I realized she was local (though I guess events at Oblong should've tipped me off). So the references to Rhinebeck and Red Hook and Poet's Walk, etc. were great.

I also appreciated how dialogue heavy this book was after A Flicker in the Dark which was very descriptive. The back and forth timelines were also great.

The reveal about Irene meeting Owen years earlier was great, as was Luna's secret. And the characters were all really intriguing.

I am a little on the fence about the ending. While Irene's death being about her getting mistaken for Luna (and being killed by the brother of one of Luna's brother's victims) was surprising, it is also the kind of thing you can't necessarily guess. Same with Mason scaring Scarlet years ago and causing her to fall. They were surprising explanations but also maybe a little disappointing? I thought we'd find out Casey killed Scarlet to protect Luna or something.

But it was a great a quick read. Though I do wish Luna was more sure of getting back together with Griff. I loved them lol
