Helvete by Erlend Loe

5.0

Erlend Loe's fantastic universe just grew outside the 'four corners' of the earth and into hell. Literally. Supported by illustrations by Kim Hiorthøy, we are led into the deepest core and hidden corners of hell. We follow Rakel, newly divorced and scared of turning the big 5-0, on her adventure.

I enjoyed reading this gem of 132 pages. The use of cliche's, the languages, the ability to break linguistic rules, it all adds to the story's quirky-ness and supports the creativity behind it. Not to spoil it; but after wondering how all this would end for hundrey pages I was thrilled to see it at being happily.
