Transfer of Power
by Vince Flynn
Normal fair in the political thriller genre. My main issue with the book was the representation of female characters. Yes, it's a testosterone fueled thriller. Yes, I usually give a little more leeway due to the genre. However, all the female characters are either incompetent (the Attorney general, the many secretaries); the self described, difficult to work with b*tch (Kennedy); or the victim (Anna). I almost would rather not have females in the book at all if they are viewed only through those lenses. None of them seemed believable or real in their roles.
Yet again, I wasn't aware the book was a series until I found the book on Goodreads. That might account for the little connection you have with the main character. You don't really get behind him until 3/4ths of the book. Maybe the development is done in the earlier books. Quick read that hits the thriller/suspense beats you expect. I believe I prefer Baldacci, but if you like books in that area you should give this one a try.
