Mercy Watson to the Rescue by Kate DiCamillo
4.0
Mercy is a pig who lives with Mr. and Mrs. Watson. Every night they sing to Mercy as they tuck her in. This makes her feel as warm and full as if she had been eating hot, buttered toast which is her favorite. But she doesn’t like the feeling after they close the door and go to their own room. One night she gets in bed between them. Everyone is comfy and dreaming. They are all awakened by the bed beginning to sink into the floor. Mercy hops off the bed hoping to get some hot, buttered toast like she had been dreaming about. The Watsons think she is going for help.
There is no toast in the kitchen so she heads next door hoping that Baby Lincoln (who is not a baby, but an older woman) will give her some sugar cookies. She wakes up Baby who thinks Mercy is a monster. Eugenia, the older sister, who believes pigs belong on farms, calls in an emergency. While Eugenia is chasing Mercy in the yard (Mercy thinks it’s a game), the firemen come. They hear the Watsons calling for help and rescue the Watsons just before the bed falls through the floor. The Watsons are convinces Mercy orchestrated the whole thing and everyone sits down to hot, buttered toast.
This is very funny for kids.
