The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
by John Boyne
This book was beautiful. I think a lot of people look at this story as trying to be historically accurate, and its not. But I think this book captures the naiveté of a 9 year old boy caught up in his father's military career. Would a little boy be able to sit by the fence and not get in trouble by the guards? No. The beauty of this book lies in the fact that we can incarcerate, abuse, and torture those who are different from us, but the second something happens to one of our own its different. It is never different, but even still this continues to happen all over the world. That is the message that this book shares. To me that is why it is powerful, and to me that's why this book is a beautiful work of fiction.
