An emotional, blistering tour de force that was difficult to put down. This book was an exercise in empathy that expanded my worldview. The characters are realistically imperfect, at times admirable and at times atrocious in their actions. My sympathies and interest in the conflicts of Africa have increased dramatically. Had it not been for a (relatively) abrupt ending, I would have given this 5 stars.
Graphic: Genocide, Sexual assault, Violence, Police brutality, War
Moderate: Toxic relationship, Violence, Kidnapping, Medical trauma
Minor: Pedophilia
