The majority of the flashbacks felt either misplaced or unnecessary. I didn't find myself caring about any of Alejandra's ancestors, and there was so much talk about getting something done to fight La Llorona, but nothing ever happened for like 50-100 pages. The ending was dumped onto the reader.
I will say that I was a fan of how Alejandra's relationship with Matthew was portrayed, and how she felt lost in the life she built with this man. As a reader, I felt the angst, the anger, the despair. It was convincing and I sympathized with her.
Not the best read, but it had it's moments.
