The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

2.0

Not as good as I was expecting honestly. I’ve read Shirley Jackson’s short stories collection and enjoyed them, but this just didn’t give me everything I wanted. I’ve found the unsettling atmosphere, focus on social relations, and the confusion of thought and identify to be key markers of Jackson’s writing and they were all present in this book. But the underlying message behind the story wasn’t clear to me. Maybe it was the audiobook I was listening to, I don’t know. The ending just felt empty, but that also could have been the whole point
