The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova

5.0

I wasn’t so sure about this book when I read the first few pages, but the ending to chapter one sealed it for me.

The worldbuilding was great! I was definitely in the need of some new High Fantasy. Throughout the beginning of the book I enjoyed learning about the world, and getting bits of pieces of Loom and Nova’s history as it went on.

There were moments after the first few chapters which read a bit slow for me but it picked up again around 30% in and I found it hard to put it down.

Florence! Her character development was amazing and I loved it! I’m so glad she didn’t just do a flip overnight — the story highlights why she changes and it gives us moments to see her gradually do this. Also, I could read a whole book with her talking about explosions.

Cvareh is in a constant state of confusion; the only thing he is ever sure about is fashion and then he complains when he has to wear something he doesn’t like. I like him, especially because he differs from the usual love interests in Fantasy or High Fantasy.
