Every Waking Hour by Joanna Schaffhausen

5.0

Read this if…you are in the mood for a detective novel involving a complex kidnapping and murder.

Six months after the events in book #3, Ellery and Reed are making their long distance relationship work. Ellery has been reinstated to the force and begins working a kidnapping case where the victim is a young teenage girl from a wealthy family. The strangest part? This family has already suffered through a tragedy when their young son and his nanny were murdered a decade prior. The killer was never found. Reed finds this to be too much of a coincidence and investigates the unsolved murders while Ellery frantically tries to find the missing girl before it’s too late.

This is my favorite book in the series so far! It could easily be enjoyed as a stand-alone unlike some of the others. The kidnapping and murder cases drive the plot forward at an intense speed and while Reed and Ellery’s relationship does feature a prominent role in the story, it doesn’t take center stage or slow the narrative down. And then the ending! I’m so glad I already have an ARC of book 5 waiting for me because that cliffhanger has got me so excited to see what happens next!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️//5
