Gin and Daggers by Jessica Fletcher, Donald Bain

3.0

Not bad. I enjoyed reading the thoughts going on in Jessica's head although you can tell in the show by her gestures exactly what she is thinking. Like when a man says something ignorant and misogynist, Jessica gives them a polite brush off and doesn't consider commenting on their rudeness as being worth her time. At times, she misses her husband Frank and it's a little heartbreaking to realize she is still mourning him. This doesn't always get talked about in the show.

I think I enjoy the show more than the book however. Both of them have a moment where someone says something like "Cabot Cove? No! Just a sleepy little town where not too much murder happens." The book doesn't include the 80's wardrobe I've come to love from the show. There's also not any background actors who repeat the same actions awkwardly behind Jessica's shoulder. I like picking out phrases or dialogue from the show that just seems unreal and loaded with innuendo. The show is my bag of 80's cozy mystery with the hopes Jessica will pull out one of her accents or feign getting drunk.

The book is darling, and cute. I might give another one a try, but won't be reading all of them.
