Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

5.0

One things for sure: I go a lot more emotionally attached to this book than I thought I would!

Lorna (from BookandtheBees) and a co-worker of mine recommended Me Before You to me, and while I was initially skeptical since I'm not always into contemporary, this book blew me away. Sure, this book could be categorized as a romance/love story, but I think it's a lot more than that. It deal with life, difficult decisions where there's no right or wrong answer, and the strength human relationships can have. But if you do want to categorize this as a love story, than you have some diversity in terms of the types of people/characters represented. Will is a character you're certainly not always going to find in a mainstream/typical romance novel.

And Louisa, she was a character I grew to admire and respect the further I read. Despite all the odds, she still perseveres. Her character development was the most obvious, and it was great seeing how she slowly came into herself and stepped out of her comfort zone. Will's character development was a lot more subtle; I found it to be telling more than showing.

Overall, I enjoyed Me Before You a lot more than I expected. I'm also really curious as to what the sequel will be like!

PS: I did not cry when I got to the end...but I'll admit my eyes were wet =P.
