Love Unwritten by Lauren Asher

5.0

Lauren outdoes herself every time!

This book pulled on every heart string in the best way. In my review for Love Redesigned, I mentioned how excited I was for Rafa’s book. So let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
Dare I say my favorite in the series so far!?

“You know what I want. Someone who cares about me so damn much, they would do everything possible to protect me rather than hurt me, and I’m quickly coming to realize you’re not that man. At least not with me.”

“What if I wanted to be that man? For you?”

Just like we saw in Love Redesigned, Lauren writes the best side characters. Though now we have new ones and I’m obsessed with everyone in Ellie’s life. Her mom, Willow, and Burt! The way they’d do anything for Ellie and say the craziest things is the best! The Muñoz and Lopez family are everything, but Ellie’s family is just as perfect. Even Lorenzo is winning me over, I’m excited for his book next!

One thing I want really want to mention is all the mental health and overall emotional topics in this book. I’d like to say how well they were handled. Lauren took her time showing us these characters alongside everything that made them who they are. I’d never heard of Nico’s eye condition, and let me tell you I was a bit of a wreck. With Rafa, it was so easy to see how selfless of a father he is and everything he did and does for his family. It’s so special to see the bond the whole family has, the way they’d do anything for one another. That’s one of my favorite parts about this series. The love they have for their community is endless and heartwarming.

Now, back to my favorite topic.
While Rafa had that cold exterior, I couldn’t help but relate.
“I developed this screwed-up mindset at a young age about relationships. That if I became the version of myself that I thought people wanted me to be, then they wouldn’t ever want to leave me.”
It took me a second to finish this book because of how close to home it hit. It’s so easy to pretend to be someone you’re not and I constantly struggle with it myself. It becomes easier to put on a facade and please people rather than know what they think about the real you. Rafa’s vulnerability with his trust and insecurities was really touching to read about. So just know I’ll defend this man with my life, I love him!!!!

Okay, okay, now onto my favorites Rafa and Ellie.
Whew this was a wild but it was worthwhile.

“If my son learned to let you in, then so can I.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I don’t, but I want to.”

My heart melted a little more right then.
Alongside these:
- when he put his pride aside and begged for Ellie to come back
- when he held her hand on the flight despite being scared himself
- he remembered all her favorite snacks and bought them for her when she was feeling sick
- booked a yacht to get them to the next island just so she wouldn’t be scared to fly again and bought her medicine for the ride
- opened up to her despite being scared of vulnerability

The list goes on, but I hope you understand how obsessed I am with them. I think they’re a perfect fit each other! Their patience with one another was everything, but seeing Rafa’s connection with his son. AHHH, thank you Ellie. She’s their missing piece and I love their family.

“If you find me using too much tongue, it better be while my head is between your legs.”
Just had to drop this here, I screamed.

Okay bye now before I spoil this entire book!
P.S. I’m begging for a Cole book at this point. I love him and he needs his happy ending!!!

Lastly, thank you to Valentine PR for the arc. You’re the best!!! Thanks for feeding my Lauren Asher addiction
