A review by whatthefunct
Dust of Dreams by Steven Erikson

3.0

I struggled to rate this one, and I am still honestly back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. Since our corporate overlords at Amazon still haven’t seen fit to introduce the obviously horribly complicated functionality of half stars, I went with 3, and for only one reason: the first two sections of Dust of Dreams were extraordinarily slow.

And then, in typical fashion, the third and fourth sections were incredible. I rated this one more for my overall enjoyment throughout than how I felt about it right at the end; I’m trying my best to avoid recency bias, alright?!

In seriousness, this was another incredible entry to the series, and I’m a combination of anxious, excited, and sad that only one more book remains in the Malazan Book of the Fallen. On the other hand, I know I have more than 15 other books/stories set within this world from Erikson and Esselmont to look forward to, and that makes me a happy boy.

Witness, friends. We’re nearly there.
