Holly by Jude Deveraux

2.0

Wow, this book was totally bonkers, but it proved that for me, as long as the connection between the hero and heroine seems real, I'm willing to finish anything. In this case the hero is Dr. Nicholas Taggertt, a wealthy successful doctor who's dated a fortune hunter for the last time. He hides out in a falling down shack, pretending to be a man of modest means, to nurse his wounds when he meets heiress Holly Latham. Their attraction is instant, but Nick keeps up the charade, wanting to be certain that Holly loves him and not his money. But it turns out that others in Holly's life don't have such honorable intentions.

Even the sex in this book was ridiculous. It wasn't very graphic, but they were having sex ALL THE TIME and in the strangest places, in a suffocatingly hot dusty attic, standing up outside beside a massive fountain, on top of a pile of buried treasure. Oh that's right, one of the side plots has Holly and Nick searching for buried treasure. Another side plot has Holly's step-sister, her best friend in the entire world, actually being her worst enemy, someone who's secretly plotted against her since their parents married 15 years ago, and is just now getting her revenge. Did I also mention that Holly's number one love in life is her family? Also her father is frightening and both of her parents seem more interested in attending events than spending time with their kids. Why again does the heroine value her family so much?

But she and Nick really do have a good connection, even without having sex EVERY SINGLE TIME they see each other. They work together well uncovering the aforementioned buried treasure, and unearthing the various other secrets of the old plantation Holly's trying to restore. Oh, yeah, that's right, besides her family, the one thing Holly loves most is restoring old homes. She loves it so much that she often forgets about her family while she goes trespassing on old properties trying to get a look at historic homes.

So basically, don't read this one, but read my spoilery review and laugh at the ridiculousness.
