Boy Toy by Barry Lyga

5.0

So many thoughts, none of which I can find a way to put into words for a review.

This seems like a book that would be very polarized--either you're disturbed by it, but moved, or you're disturbed by it, and you want to remove it from you brain.

This is a first-person POV book about a predatory sexual relationship between a twelve-year-old and his twenty-four-year-old teacher. There is no shying away from details: you get every thought and action from our main character, Josh. This book is designed to be deeply uncomfortable and difficult to read. That makes this book difficult to rate and review; I really can't find much to say besides please be aware of the content of the book before reading it, if you choose to do so. It is painful and almost feels wrong to leave, but I respect Barry Lyga's approach at such a risky topic.

Clearly I've been at a loss for words in this review, but I did give it 5 stars. It's emotional. It's angry. It makes you understand how something that seem unfathomable actually happens. I'm going to be thinking about it for awhile now.
