I struggled at first to get into it. Then it seemed to pick up steam and I got about halfway. And then I got soooo bored. I left at chapter 38 and started to read again at chapter 68, yes - skipping a whole of 30 chapters - and except for a few details the plot in my head didn’t suffer for it. Half that book didn’t matter for the plot. Read Day 10 in one swoop, and glad I did what I did.  There was no character development worth the wasting of time.
